Coming to Women Deliver?

Several folks have asked for recommendations for their time in Vancouver. A few quick thoughts on places that located close to the conference. We look forward to seeing you!

Food near the conference – Asian food here is great. A few spots nearby to the conference….. Sura – Lovely family-style Korean. There is always a bit of a line but it is worth the wait. Santouka – There are tonnes of extremely popular ramen restaurants in the West End neighborhood which is close to the conference. Santouka on Robson St is a favourite but there are many others. There are always lines but they never seem to be too long. Miku – High end sushi near the conference. Kingyo – Izakaya in the West End. Other… Nuba – Lovely, casual and good Lebanese. One location in Gastown, one in Yaletown. Cardero’s – Sustainable seafood on the waterfront. Good location with respect to the conference. Chambar Nice Belgian/fusion food located downtown. Salmon n’Bannock – Vancouver is located on the traditional and unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. At Salmon n’Bannock you can get a great traditional/fusion meal.

Things to do – The best thing to do in Vancouver is rent bikes (or borrow from your hotel) and bike around Stanley Park. It’s a flat, 10k, bike trail next to the water that boasts gorgeous views of the park and mountains. You can stop at several spots to enjoy the beach. On Denman street a number of bike shops will rent you a bike in the afternoon or early evening for a very low rate. You can walk to Denman along the seawall from the conference. If you like to swim laps, our pools on the water are exceptional and just opened for the summer. There is a 137m pool in Kitsilano and one on Second Beach (close to downtown/conference).

Getting around – It can be extremely difficult to get a cab in Vancouver and Lyft/Uber are not legal. From the airport the Sky Train heads right downtown and you can just tap your credit card to pay the fare, which is true of all public transport in the city. There is also luxury company that can also take you for $15 more than a cab. Otherwise, the buses, walking and Car2Go are great options.
